Thank you to all who attended and participated in the Fostering Equitable and Inclusive Neighborhoods event last week! This event discussed how many Columbia families live in insecure housing or neighborhoods that negatively shape their health and other life outcomes. These issues are often poorly understood and difficult to address with meaningful impact. This event provided both academic and practical insights on building public will to address these complex social problems.
The Housing Programs Division had approximately 182 attendees for Dr. Manuel’s talk and will be posting the results of the breakout sessions very soon!
We are one step closer to the building of the Cullimore Cottages! Last night the Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously voted to recommend the approval of the rezoning pre-development plan for the Cullimore Cottages on N. 8th Street. This past Saturday the City of Columbia, Providence Bank and Veterans United partnered to host a home buyer credit class. We were so pleased with the event and hope the participants are as well. These FREE classes are held once a month at City Hall and include tips and helpful advice on lending practices, working with real estate agents and credit scores! This class is great for anyone interested in purchasing a home, and a requirement for the purchase of a CCLT home and the City’s Down Payment Assistance Program.
